Officially know as Nymphaea Alba, the white water lily, European white water lily or white nenuphar. It’s an aquatic flowering plant in the family Nymphaeaceae and is native to North Africa, temperate Asia, Europe and tropical Asia.
Where do they grow?
Nymphaea are rhizomatous (continuously growing horizontal underground stem which puts out lateral shoots and adventitious roots at intervals), submerged aquatic perennials with floating, rounded leaves and showy, sometimes fragrant, cup- or bowl-shaped flowers in a wide range of colours, held on or above the water and followed by submerged, berry-like fruits. They thrive in tropical climates.
What is Nymphaea Alba used for?
It is used as an aphrodisiac, anodyne, antiscrophulatic, astringent, cardiotonic, demulcent, antioxidant, sedative and anti-inflammatory. It also produces calming and sedative effects upon the nervous system, and is useful in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety and similar disorders.
The extract protects the skin protein from getting damaged and also helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines formed whilst providing elasticity to the skin, all as a result of ageing, as well as the long term effects caused by sun damage. It may also reduce dark spots formed by hyperpigmentation from the skin.
Is Water Lily good for skin?
Research has found that this flower extract is bursting with powerful antioxidants, which help defend against environmental stressors that cause damage to your skin. This will help your skin to look and feel healthy.
The flower extract is an excellent soothing moisturiser, providing instant hydration to the skin. It also has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties making it superb for irritated skin, working to calm and soothe skin pain caused from heat and sun damage.
It also acts as a cleansing and pore constrictor making it a great soother for painful skin due to the effects caused by acne whilst controlling the growth of bacteria.
Which Pevonia Product(s) can this be found in?
Found in Pevonia’s After-Sun Soothing Gel, the water lily extract works with antiseptic Green Tea, soothing and healing Chamomile and moisturising Sorbitol to immediately alleviate painful sunburn. This hydrating gel instantly cools and soothes, reducing redness, and calming sensitivity.
Who Needs It?
For anyone who has a sunburn, had recent sun exposure or red, irritated skin. A must for preventing inflammation, loss of elasticity, and dehydration that UV rays cause. Also great post-waxing services or anytime the skin is irritated.
Top Tip:
Keep it in the fridge for an extra boost of coolness.
